Planned Giving Campaigns - Getting Started and Improving Yours

In Season 3, Episode 1, I spoke with Meagan Flippin from United Way and Jennifer Hunt from Gordon Law Group about setting up a planned giving campaign at your nonprofit organization. Meagan walked me through the process she used to launch the first ever planned giving campaign at United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties. Jennifer Hunt, an estate planning attorney with Gordon Law Group, talked me through the various types of planned giving and which options are most beneficial for nonprofit organizations.

Strategic Plans and How to Make Them

In Season 2, Episode 12, I spoke with George Hsieh from Community Resource Exchange and Corey Gephart from St. Luke’s Community House to learn about the strategic planning process for nonprofit organizations. George Hsieh is a seasoned nonprofit consultant who coaches nonprofit organizations in New York City through the strategic planning process, and he shared the basic steps to writing a strategic plan. Corey Gephart’s organization recently completed a strategic planning process, and she shared her experiences with her board and strategic planning committee, as well as some advice for other nonprofits starting the process for the first time.

Two Types of Grants

In Season 2, Episode 10, I spoke with grant reviewers from two different types of grant making organizations--a Giving Circle, and a Community Foundation. I asked Mollie from Impact Nashville and Michael from the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to shed some light on how each of these grant making organizations function, and how grant seekers can make their grants stand out among the crowd.

How to Create Programs

In Season 2, Episode 9, I spoke with the Executive Directors of MindWorks Collaborative and Unscripted to learn about how they created their innovative programs from scratch. Both of these organizations work in very niche, unique cause areas, so they didn't have the luxury of looking at other organizations' programs to help guide their planning process. I asked Martrice and Emma for their advice on creating new programs at a nonprofit organization.
