Board Engagement in Fundraising

In a healthy nonprofit organization, the board of directors is engaged in the fundraising (development) strategy. I work with nonprofit leaders to train their boards on how to support their organization’s development strategy in a meaningful, non-intimidating manner.

Jenni is an incredibly talented and knowledgeable resource to the non-profit world. She is packed full of wisdom, resources, insights, and experience that have been beneficial to our young non-profit. We have specifically worked on Board Development and the tools that Jenni provides are invaluable. With her expertise, she encouraged us toward reaching out to resources not previously considered and toward well-organized processes of Board member acquisition. Our organization is very excited to have tools in hand to proceed with this task. In addition to this, Jenni is genuine and gentle and easy to work with. She has a sweet heart with kind ways and full of compassion. This makes her a perfect fit for helping non-profits - who of course, thrive on compassion! We will use her again for more components of our organization, as we are able. We highly recommend her methods and professionalism.

TO WORK WITH BOARDS:

  1. I first work to understand the history of board involvement in fundraising — What expectations are outlined in the board member contract and orientation? Does 100% of the board donate to the organization? How does the board typically get involved in fundraising campaigns?

  2. Next, I work with the top leaders of the organization to create a training plan to help boards understand the basics of fundraising. Typically, these plans cover topics including peer-to-peer fundraising, acknowledgement and thank-you strategies, networking and introductions, and fundraising event committees.

  3. Finally, I provide initial training and ongoing coaching for the board to help implement board fundraising strategies.

As a new Executive Director at a startup nonprofit Jenni was a blessing to work with on figuring out our marketing and development strategies. Not only did she support our leadership but she also supported our board and provided training and guidance in the areas of communication/marketing and development. Even when we hired a social media consultant to execute our communications vision Jenni was able to help. She also constantly connected us to other nonprofits and service providers who could support us along the way in the areas where she could not.
