The Best Donor Communications Tools for Nonprofits

This week on the Nonprofit Jenni Show, we play a round of Nonprofit Trivia with Christine Waltz from For the Love of a Veteran to test your knowledge about the best communication tools to use with donors.

How to Communicate With Donors

Did you get a chance to play along with this week’s segment of Nonprofit Trivia? Warning: Spoilers are coming up! Here were the questions and answers from this round:

1. Which communication tool most inspires donors to make their first gift?

In other words, which marketing channel should you use to ask donors to make their first gift? Aside from directly asking someone face-to-face (which has an effectiveness rate of about 60%), the most effective tool to solicit donations is email.

2. Which communication tool is the most likely to inspire repeat donations?

Again, email! Email is especially effective when it’s personalized, referring to a donor by name, and when used consistently to communicate with donors - not just during fundraising campaigns.

3. When donors make a gift through social media, which platform inspires the most donations?

You may not be surprised to learn most social media donations come through Facebook, possibly because Facebook has the most robust set of fundraising tools available to nonprofits.
