Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the Social Sector

In light of the recently revived Black Lives Matter movement, acts of police brutality, and following riots and protests, I thought it was important to look back at some conversations I had back in January with a couple experts in equity. Originally entitled “I’m Not Interested in Equality Because Equality Isn’t Good Enough”, this episode has become extremely relevant again as nonprofit leadership teams review their DEI policies and goals.  This week on the Nonprofit Jenni Show, Jon Royal (a community leader helping organizations prioritize equity) and Chandra Williams (CEO of the Center for Student Achievement Solutions) return to help your organization improve its DEI.

How to Improve Your Nonprofit’s DEI Strategy

As I mentioned, this week’s podcast episode is actually a re-release of an episode I originally published in January of this year. It just so happens that the subject matter has become extremely important to nonprofit leaders because of recent cultural events.

If you’re looking for a written summary of this podcast episode and some recommendations from my expert guests, check out my original blog post that I released alongside the original podcast.

Free Toolkit to Help Your Nonprofit Talk About Racial Justice

Every nonprofit leadership team should have deep conversations about racial justice, especially related to your internal policies and culture. Don’t worry--I plan to talk about this over the next few weeks on the podcast to offer more advice in this area.

In the meantime, your nonprofit can help your local community have these conversations and promote racial justice for regular everyday citizens with my Racial Injustice Awareness Kit. The free version of this kit includes:

  • Three free resources to share (including a flyer, social media image album, and infographic) with your constituents

  • Places on all three resources to include your nonprofit’s logo

  • Also, space on all three resources to ask for donations!

If you would like to support my work and this podcast, and you want more flexibility with the awareness kit, you can purchase the full version for just $49. The full version includes:

  • Full customization options, so you can edit all three resources to use your nonprofit’s colors, fonts, and more

  • Sample copy (text) I’ve pre-written for you to use in your emails, newsletters, and social media

  • Additional recommendations to make your awareness efforts successful
